The Miami Dolphins signing of Larry Johnson earlier this week didn’t make a lot of sense and would have made absolutely no sense a few months ago. Sure he didn’t cost them a great deal and he has had a fairly impressive career but isn’t Ricky Williams’ resumé that much better? Add in the baggage that comes with Johnson and the Dolphins’ recent course seems to be a road to nowhere.
Williams has been rejuvenated the past 3 years while Johnson has been on a steady decline. Do the Dolphins really need another player saddled with several domestic violence incidents on his record? They've already had their share of trouble dealing with the problems that Brandon Marshall brings with him. The Johnson move in itself wasn’t that outrageous, since they no longer have Williams or Ronnie Brown, but when you consider they let both those players go, only to have to resort to picking up the washed-up Johnson afterwards, then it looks like the desperate move it is.
First it looked like the Dolphins wanted to start over and go younger, then they went back in the opposite direction. It sure looks like they were better off when they started and that they haven’t a clue which way they need to go to become a winning team.
