Yesterday’s game at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey confirmed comments made this past week by both Dolphins’ running back Reggie Bush and safety Yeremiah Bell.
After Miami snatched losing from the jaws of victory against the miracle-man, Tim Tebow, and the rest of the Denver Broncos, Bush and Bell exchanged comments via the media in regards to the sorry state of the team. Bush was asked about the team’s status after that loss and was quoted as saying "It's just embarrassing, I don't know any other way to explain it. It's an embarrassing loss. Had no business losing that game. We were up 15 points with what, five minutes left to go? And we couldn't win it? It's disgusting. Right now, this team stinks." Nothing earth shattering there. There were probably a few million others saying the same thing.
Several teammates were not amused, in particularly Bell. When Bush’s comments were brought to Bell, he replied, "He stinks, that shouldn't be said around this locker room. We know that we're 0-6 and we're not playing the best but at the same time there's no need for that." Yeremiah, all Reggie did was answer a question, and he didn’t single anyone out. He didn’t refer to an overwhelming stench coming from your part of the defensive backfield, although he probably could have.
Those comments were followed up by words from linebacker Kevin Burnett (he who replaced the greatly missed Channing Crowder) more or less backing up Bush’s opinion. Bush refused to use the ‘out of context’ excuse saying, “What else would I mean?” and followed it up with ”There’s no room for sensitivity in this league. This is a man’s game and we all signed on the dotted line. Right to the point, enough said.
Miami’s collapse this past Sunday, although not nearly as dramatic as last week’s, highlighted how incapable they are of playing competently for 60 minutes. Clearly Reggie Bush was correct in his assessment of the team. They do emit a foul odour. Bell was right about Bush too, however. He’s just not quite as rancid as Bell and most of the rest of them.
