Trade Centre Full of Excitement

Today was the NHL’s trade deadline and, in keeping with my expectations, virtually nothing of any consequence took place. Now, if you’ve been watching the ads for ‘Trade Centre’ (TSN’s name for their over-hyped, nearly all day coverage of said ‘action’) you would have assumed that anyone and everyone who was anyone would be changing teams on this day. Of course, this did not happen. In fact, almost nothing happened. No major moves were made, not even any significant players, who could be considered a final piece in a team’s roster puzzle were moved.
Thankfully I had to work today and was busy enough to only have time to check TSN’s website 3 or 4 times. Each time I checked I found nothing more than the last time I visited the Trade Centre Home Page. Each visit was worth a chuckle when I imagined the many desks of ‘experts’ handing it off to the next like a hot potato, not wanting to have spend time discussing the nothing that had taken place since the last time the floor was theirs.
Three years ago I had the misfortune of being sick on the day of the league’s trade deadline. Since I was sick I wasn’t terribly motivated to do anything other than lay around. How ‘fortunate’ that there happened to be 8 hours (this year’s was up to 10) of coverage of every move the league’s 30 teams were going to make that day.
The only way I could possibly have ended up watching as much of TSN as I did that day, was being too sick to even sit upright, let alone leave the room and find something else to do. The only benefit to watching ‘Trade Centre’ that day was that the overwhelming lack of interesting activity allowed me to catch some much needed rest. No amount of toothpicks was going to keep me awake the entire day.
This year, like the last two, I caught as much of their analysis as I needed to, which was not very much at all.
